In the Marine Corps, each job, or military occupational specialty (MOS) and related jobs are classified within occupational fields (OccFlds). The United States Marine Corps was officially founded in November of 1775 and is headquartered in Quantico, Virginia, near Washington, DC. Marines are required by Congressional mandate to provide task forces in the air, at sea, and on land. All other infantry jobs are taught in follow-on courses after training in one of the core jobs. Roles in the Marines Marines Every Marine is a rifleman first, and every Marine has a role that contributes to our success. It is responsible for providing rapidly deployable, combined arms-capable teams that can operate in any terrain and against any threat. The core enlisted infantry MOSs for the USMC are 0311, 0331, 0341, (formerly 0351 until 2021), and 0352 and Marines are trained in these jobs at the School of Infantry.
